GENERAL DENTISTRY
How often should I schedule appointments?
It is recommended that you see your dentist two times a year. During these appointments we will do cleanings, comprehensive exams and oral cancer screenings. Regular examinations mean that these problems can be found when they are at their most treatable or even before they fully develop so that preventative measures can be taken.
What is a comprehensive exam?
Usually performed during dental cleanings, a comprehensive exam allows the dentist to assess and analyze your overall oral health and hygiene. It involves a complete and thorough patient examination covering everything from pre-existing conditions, gum health, even screenings, and diagnostic exams to guarantee optimal oral health.Oral health offers your dentist insight into the overall health of your body, so dental check-ups are a must for complete full-body health.
VENEERS
Do veneers hurt?
Veneers are meant to cover broken, or cracked or chipped teeth. They are also meant to strengthen teeth and provide protection. This helps with tooth sensitivity. Most of the time, our patients feel better after their procedure. You will more than likely be able to return to your normal routine the very next day!
Will my new veneers be bulky or look fake?
Veneers are thin shells made out of porcelain or composite resin. Unlike crowns, veneers are affixed only to the front of the tooth and around the bottom edge. They are meant to correct dental issues like discoloration, chips, cracks, uneven spacing or alignment, genetic problems, and worn enamel. Porcelain veneers are white, and made to match the natural color teeth. They also have a shine that matches
Do you have to grind my tooth down?
Our minimal prep veneers do not involve grinding down teeth and only require a small amount of enamel to be removed.
How long do veneers last?
With proper care and oral hygiene, your veneers can last you up to 20 years and beyond! If you happen to crack or chip your veneers, they are not able to be repaired and will need replacing.
IMPLANTS
Do implants hurt?
You can expect some tenderness after the anesthesia wears off. However, it isn’t unmanageable. Your dentist will likely recommend that you take an over the counter pain reliever for any discomfort felt during the healing process. It is essential that you follow any aftercare points distributed by your dentist.
How long do dental implants last?
With proper care and dental hygiene your implants can last you a lifetime. The wear and tear on the crowns of the implants will depend on where they are placed in your teeth.
Do implants feel like normal teeth?
Implants were designed with the goal to look and feel natural. The crown will look and match the natural color of your teeth. The anchors, or screws are fused into the jaw which gives it the feeling of a natural tooth.
Can implants get cavities?
Implants will not get cavities because they are made of synthetics materials.
TMJ
What treatment options are available?
Short-term use of over-the-counter pain medications or anti-inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen is something we might recommend to provide temporary assistance from jaw discomfort. We will assist and evaluate your problems and discomfort and give you a personalized treatment plan that will ease your pain.
What is the difference between TMJ and TMD?
TMJ is an acronym for the temporomandibular joint, which is a hinge that connects your jaw to the bones in front of each ear – the temporal bones of your skull. TMD is an acronym for temporomandibular disorder, which affects the temporomandibular joint. This can occur and result in discomfort, dysfunction, and pain in the joints and muscles that make up the jaw and control its movement.
